Cheonmyeong (天明)
Cheonmyeong is a cultivar that originated from a self-bred mutation of Mokryu (墨流), exhibiting characteristics of Sibok Jungban (三光中斑) in the Seolipbokryun (切込覆輪) category. In 2004, Mr. Heo Min-su modified Mokryu through self-cultivation, and the following year, he selected this double-layered Sibok Jungban from the flask. The pattern is innate, combining the subtle stripes of Sibok Jungban with incised overlapping patterns.
The pattern of the new shoots is well-formed from the beginning, although occasionally, as seen in Seochuldo (西出都), they may initially appear green for 2-3 leaves before assuming their characteristic appearance. The leaves are broad, thick, and in the style of Jeopmuk (접묵), showcasing an elegant and sturdy form. It was newly registered by the Korean Orchid Association in 2013. The name, Cheonmyeong, was given by Kim Eun-ok in honor of Queen Seondeok, the sister of the first queen of the Silla Dynasty, and the clear and wise nature of Princess Cheonmyeong, who was the mother of King Muyeol (Kim Chun-chu). The name carries symbolic significance, embodying her clear and wise character and achievements.
Samil (三一), Ukeul (旭日)
Samil is a Baekbokryun (白覆輪) variety from the Amami group. The celestial leaves undergo a snowy-white transformation with a hint of navy (감색), displaying a distinctive white overlapping pattern that is somewhat acquired after the snowy-white coloration. Particularly rare and unique, it exhibits a small yet discernible pattern reminiscent of the 'Yeongchunggeom,' setting it apart from other Baekbokryun varieties in the Amami group. It is easily identifiable among numerous cultivars in the Amami group, showcasing a rare feature not commonly found in other overlapping patterns.
Ukeul, though named in Japan as "旭日" (meaning sunrise or morning sun), is known as "Samil" in Korea. It is a large, richly colored Baekbokryun, expressing a strong sensibility. The characteristic coloration of Antosian, unique to the Amami group, spreads along the edges, creating a distinctive atmosphere with a feminine touch. Belonging to the Bugwijeon (富貴殿) type, it features a prominent sensibility, and with its overlapping leaves, it presents a medium-sized appearance. The attachment is a shallow crescent shape close to a straight line, adhering to a shallow moon shape.
