Baekgyeoldanyeop (白潔短葉), Naejo (雷鳥), Oryong (五龍)
Baekgyeoldanyeop is a dwarf variety of the Amami group, originating from the crossbreeding of Eommiboseon (奄美寶扇) from the Cheonseom group (火光, torch) and Yoonpung (潤風). It is a dwarf, snowy-striped (雪白縞) cultivar. The pattern is innate, featuring delicate stripes reminiscent of the Samgwang (三光) style, blending with thicker stripes (太縞) and ink (墨) patterns characteristic of snowy stripes. Like its parents, it has well-overlapping leaves, a very wide axis, and a compact appearance with a distinct snowy pattern resembling Baekrok (白鹿).
Generally, Baekho varieties are known for their finicky nature, often becoming rare cultivars over time. As a result, they are highly preferred and carefully nurtured. This particular cultivar, awarded the gold prize as '白龍之舞' at the 2019 Japan National Competition in the unregistered category in Karatsu, is no exception. This variety is also known by the names Baekgyeoldanyeop, Naejo, and Oryong.
It attaches with shallow concavity close to a straight line at an acute angle, exhibiting a shape akin to Niheuk (니흑) and a shallow crescent moon shape.
Tohamsan (吐含山)
Tohamsan is a variety of the Amami group, characterized by leaf variations in the Sibokryun (絲覆輪) category. The mother plant (母種) is a mutation from an individual with incised (切込性) ink (墨) flowing through the solid and firm tubular leaves, incorporating Konpe at the leaf tips. It is a small, distinctive cultivar with strong individuality. Notably, it features Sibokryun with earlobe-like markings that slightly touch the leaf edges, flowing ink lines (墨) resembling solid threads. The leaf tips are particularly charming, curving inward like the hooked noses of traditional white-faced masks worn by women, giving it an endearing appearance.
The leaves resemble needle leaves (침엽), with dense spacing and good leaf retention, exhibiting unique characteristics in attachment and concave attachment. When exposed to strong sunlight, the leaves become firm and concentrated, while weak sunlight results in a loose and blurry appearance. The flowers have a slight reddish tint on the petals, a long spur (거), and pink-colored flower stems. It is a newly registered cultivar by the Korean Orchid Association. The attachment is a shallow waveform close to a straight line, exhibiting an appearance similar to a shallow rectangular shape.
